Smokers need Antioxidants

Some components of cigarette smoke promote oxidation that provides high levels of oxidant stress. Free radicals, which also promote oxidation, are derived from tobacco. Cigarette smoke has been estimated to contain too much free radicals per inhalation. These free radicals can oxidize the fat components of the body and this is very harmful.
Essentially, smokers need antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid), and vitamin E. It was once believed that beta-carotene was an attribute for non-smokers, but recent clinical studies have found that beta-carotene can actually be harmful to smokers' health. Beta-carotene can be found in most multi-vitamins and an excess of beta-carotene is risky for good nutritional health. If you are a smoker and going to take a multi-vitamin, be sure it doesn't list beta-carotene as one of the ingredients.

Correct Eating

Eat in moderation and eat foods that are nutrient dense. Too often we subject ourselves to the fast food philosophy of consuming food in extra large portion sizes that are calorie dense but relatively poor in nutrient content. Here are a few tips for eating heart healthy:

Cook only enough food for one moderate portion size.
Use small plates when serving food. This encourages smaller portions.
After serving the food, put away any extra portions so that the temptation to go back for seconds will be less.
Eat dinner before 6:00 PM and do not snack after this time in the evening. If you cannot eat dinner early, focus on making dinner your smallest meal of the day.
Eat whole grain breads and cereals and greatly reduce the quantity of refined sugar in your diet.
Eat fruits and vegetables!
Pack your lunch rather than buying fast food. Packing your lunch is cheaper and healthier than buying fast food.

Junk vs. Healthy Nutrition

Maintaining a healthy diet is the practice of making choices about what to eat with the intent of improving or maintaining good health. Usually this involves consuming necessary nutrients by eating the appropriate amounts from all of the food groups. Since human nutrition is complex a healthy diet may vary widely subject to an individual's genetic makeup, environment, and health. For around 20% of the planet's population, lack of food and malnutrition are the main impediments to healthy eating.
Generally, a healthy diet will include: 1. Sufficient calories to maintain a person's metabolic and activity needs, but not so excessive as to result in fat storage greater than roughly 12% of body mass; 2. Sufficient quantities of fat, including monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat and saturated fat, with a balance of omega-6 and long-chain omega-3 lipids; 3. Avoidance of trans fat. 4. Sufficient essential amino acids ("complete protein") to provide cellular replenishment and transport proteins; 5. Essential micronutrients such as vitamins and certain minerals. 6. Avoiding directly poisonous (e.g. heavy metals) and carcinogenic (e.g. benzene) substances; 7. Avoiding foods contaminated by human pathogens (e.g. e. coli, tapeworm eggs)...
